1. Northern Waters Smokehaus

Located right on the outside of the popular DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace is the beloved Northern Waters Smokehaus.

When it comes to delicious sandwiches in Duluth, Northern Waters Smokehaus is a must-visit destination.

Make a stop at their walk-up window and order one of their classic sandwiches to go, or head inside to check out their smoked fish selection.

Their menu has a huge variety of sandwiches, including everything from their popular Cajun Finn with smoked in-‘Haus’ salmon, to their Clubhaus which features their smoked sage-maple turkey breast.

One of the best parts is that you can take some home with you to enjoy later from their large selection of freshly smoked fish!

2. Grandma’s Saloon

Sitting right next to the Aerial Lift Bridge, Grandma’s Saloon has been a long-time Canal Park favorite since the 1970s.

Not only is this a great place to eat, but there’s also a bit of history behind where Grandma’s came from and how it started!

The restaurant got its name, ‘Grandma’s,’ after Rosa Brochi, who worked hard back in the 1800s to care for those who lived in her boarding house.

Her grandsons opened the first Grandma’s, and today, you can head into their dining room for good food, good people, and good times.

Enjoy classic foods like burgers, sandwiches, and comfort foods. Be sure to try out their Wild Rice Cranberry Meatloaf. It’s very Minnesotan of them!

Even if it’s rainy outside and you can’t enjoy the Lakewalk, you can check out the beautiful lake views from inside Grandma’s Saloon.

Listen to the sizzle of fajitas as they emerge from the kitchen, or opt for something a little more classic like a plate piled high with street tacos.

I love Green Mill’s Margherita pizza, and we love to get it on the Old World-style crust because it’s really just the best!

Be sure to save room for dessert, because after stopping here for lunch or dinner, you can run right next door to Love Creamery for an ice cream cone.

5. Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar

In Duluth, you can at least give the delicious Italian cuisine a try at Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar.

Using only the best imported and local ingredients, you’ll get authentic Italian food at Bellisio’s, but in a casual atmosphere.

And if you’re anything like me and like something sweet to end a meal, then check out their Cookizza, which is a deep-dish cookie. Add ice cream to it, and oh. my. gosh. Heaven on Earth!

This small Canal Park restaurant has everything you could want in a pizza joint: piping hot pies straight out of the oven, a cozy atmosphere, and a wide range of toppings to choose from.

Their unique Neopolitan-style wood-fired pizzas are like something from another planet, with the perfect amount of toppings and delicious taste.

We’ve gone for their Baked Potato pizza, with mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, and broccoli piled high, but any of their other pies are just as great.

Order from their huge menu of seafood options, and feel like you’re out on the coast, rather than in the middle of the Midwest.

Sometimes, all you need is a good plate of seafood, and you can’t seem to find that many places in Minnesota.

But at Red Lobster, you’ll get just what you wished for. Sometimes, I go just for the biscuits. I won’t lie to you!

11. Lake Avenue Restaurant and Bar

Looking for a restaurant that’s as charming as Duluth itself? Look no further than Lake Avenue Restaurant and Bar.

It’s found within the DeWitt-Seitz Marketplace and offers a great place to grab a bite to eat.

With offerings on their menu like seasonal salads, comfort foods like shepherd’s pie, and delicious soups, you’ll surely find something to love.

There are multiple vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, so if that diet fits you, this is a perfect place to go!

Lake Avenue also offers a terrific brunch menu, with classic breakfast foods like french toast, breakfast burritos, and my favorite, biscuits and gravy.

12. Lakewalk Galley

Need a quick and easy Canal Park restaurant to grab a bite to eat at? Check out the Lakewalk Galley, just off Canal Park Drive.

Being located just a short distance from the lake makes this the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat and watch the ships roll in.

There’s even a large grassy patch nearby that would make the perfect picnic spot! So don’t forget a blanket!

While it isn’t anything fancy, you can order from the Lakewalk Galley’s menu of basic foods like sandwiches and nachos.

They’re actually run and operated by the Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar (look above for more info!), so you can expect good food!

Plus, it’s decorated as a cute little boat, so it fits the theme of Canal Park nicely.

13. Dubh Linn Irish Brew Pub

If you’ve never been to Ireland, now your chance to get a taste of their unique cuisine without having to fly across the world!

At Dubh Linn (get it?! Dublin?!) Irish Brew Pub, you can try Irish classics like fish and chips, bangers and mash, and original burgers.

Dubh Linn also means ‘The Dark Pool’ in Old Irish, which is significant to the makings of Ireland’s signature Guinness beers.

They use fresh and local ingredients as often as possible and add their family’s own twist to all of the meals that they serve.

All of their food is made from scratch in-house, and you can grab a drink from their bar.

You can also gather a group of friends and come together to play a game of darts or shuffleboard, or come to check out their open-mic stand-up comedy every Thursday night.

14. Sammy’s Pizza and Restaurant

One of my personal favorite restaurants in Canal Park, Duluth is Sammy’s Pizza and Restaurant.

Sammy’s was started back in the 1950s by Sam Perrella, who the locals call Grandpa Sam. Thank you, Grandpa Sam, for making such amazing pizza!

It’s located just a short distance up from Lake Superior, and you’ll get to experience some of the best pizza ever!

While Sammy’s is simple, you’ll appreciate the taste and flavor that comes from their high-quality pizzas.

I’m a huge fan of their Sammy’s Special pizza, but if I’m in the mood for pasta, I order their Chicken Tetrazzini. You won’t be disappointed by these two!

Note: Amazing Grace Cafe was another favorite stop in Duluth for many. As of February 2023, Amazing Grace is permanently closed.

This family-owned brewery sits right on the shores of Lake Superior, with easy access to the Lakewalk.

Relax outside on their dog-friendly patio and take in the views of the phenomenal great lake, and sip on a locally brewed beer.

It’s also right across from the Canal Park Lodge, which is one of the areas best places to stay with a pool and Lake Superior views! Epic!

16. Hoops Brewing Company

Since they’re only open in the summer, be sure to plan your visit accordingly, and don’t miss the Portland Malt Shoppe!
