If you’ve ever visited Grand Rapids, then you’ve probably heard of the popular Sugar Lake Lodge Resort, as it’s definitely one of the best in town!

This beautiful resort is located about 20 minutes outside of Grand Rapids on the shores of beautiful Sugar Lake.

One of the best parts of Sugar Lake Lodge is the endless amount of activities that are available to guests, all free with your stay.

Between paddleboard and kayak rides, the sand beach, an 18-round golf course, fishing, a heated pool, and more, you’ll have plenty to do.

And in the winter, snowmobiles and ice fishermen rule the lake, which is a great way to still have fun, even in the cold weather.

There are 3 cabins that are open in the winter and nearby are some epic snowmobile trails, along with places to cross-country ski or snowshoe.

7. Mallard Point Cabins

The Mallard Point Cabins are located on Prairie Lake, just 10 minutes outside of town, making them one of the closest resorts to Grand Rapids.

While this small, 2-cabin location isn’t much of a big resort anymore, back in the 1950s, Mallard Point Resort was a location for many families to share.

Today, you can rent the entire property for just your family, making it a much more private experience without other guests around.

There are 2 beautiful cabins, each decorated to showcase some of Minnesota’s unique aspects and quirks, including our state motto, ‘uffda.’ 😉

Things to Do in Grand Rapids, MN

There are so many epic things to do while you’re paying a visit to Grand Rapids, and I wanted to share a few of them here with you.

In the summer, of course, recreating on Pokegama Lake is one of the top activities, such as kayaking, boating, tubing, swimming, etc., etc.

Going for a bike ride on the Mesabi Trail is a great way to get out and see the area and get some exercise.

Mountain biking at the Tioga Recreation Area is a great way to test a new skill and enjoy the beautiful area around Tioga Beach.

In the winter, snowmobiling and ice fishing on Pokegama are two favorites of locals to still enjoy the cold.

Watching a show, like The Nutcracker at the Reif Center is an awesome way to beat the cold temperatures indoors.
