I lived 30 minutes from Stillwater and love exploring the small city and enjoying all of its culinary treats!

Below are some of the very best places to eat in Stillwater. From classic American cuisine to Mexican, Japanese, and sweets like ice cream, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

1. The Tilted Tiki

Have you ever wanted to escape Minnesota and head to a tropical beach? Well, at The Tilted Tiki, you can do just that!

Walk into the building, or even just onto their spacious outdoor patio, and you’ll be transported to a warmer, tropical destination.

Start with a few small plates to share with the table, from delicious Brussels sprouts to cheese curds, then move on to their full menu.

Try their tropical-themed cuisine, including fan favorites like their tacos and the Tiki Burger, all with a tropical twist.

Grab a drink or two, all served in island style, and sit back and enjoy the great atmosphere of The Tilted Tiki.

2. Brick & Bourbon

Brick & Bourbon, located in the heart of Downtown Stillwater, is a must-visit restaurant for those who crave good food and a great atmosphere.

This restaurant is well-known for its delicious menu, featuring items like tasty burgers and a mouth-watering creme brulee for dessert.

It’s a small restaurant, but has a great bar and unique atmosphere, with many of the tables being made from wooden barrels.

In the summer months, you can sit outside and enjoy their rooftop patio, which showcases views of the St. Croix River.

Important Tip: When we visited Brick & Bourbon, there was a really long wait! Be sure to arrive before you’re hungry, because they don’t currently take any reservations!

3. Papa’s Rooftop

Papa’s Rooftop has long been a favorite rooftop restaurant in Stillwater for visitors, thanks to its amazing views of the St. Croix River Valley.

Located on the rooftop of the Water Street Inn, many people come just to sit back and enjoy a drink with a view. It’s the best place for a romantic night out.

But if you’re craving some food, then grab a hand-tossed pizza from their menu or share a starter with your table.

One of the best times to dine here is as the sun goes down, as you can watch the sunset over the river and enjoy the cozy atmosphere with string lights and a fireplace.

4. You & Me Cafe

This brand-new cafe in Stillwater just opened in the beginning of April 2023 and has already brought a lot of life to the small town!

Serving up elevated coffee drinks and small plates, You & Me Cafe offers a nice space to sit back and relax.

Whether you’re looking for a place to catch up with old friends or just need a pick-me-up before work, you can find it here.

Choose a drink from their expansive menu of hot and cold beverages, including tea, coffee, juice, and more.

And then grab a bite to eat from their large selection of breakfast foods, sandwiches, soups, salads, and more.

Although it hasn’t been open long, You & Me Cafe will surely make a great addition to the Stillwater restaurant scene!

5. LoLo American Kitchen

Another of the best restaurants in Stillwater is the LoLo American Kitchen, where you’ll find food made with fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients.

The unique menu has high-quality foods like sticky rice bowls, steaks, seafood, and burgers.

My personal favorite is the fried Brussels sprouts small plate, and I’ve also loved the chicken tacos. So good!

They also have some great gluten-free options, and the bar offers an expansive menu of cocktails and drinks to enjoy.

Sit back and enjoy the ambiance of the LoLo American Kitchen, and then head out for some exploring of Stillwater’s Main Street!

Tip: LoLo’s can get really busy, so I recommend getting there early (so you don’t get hangry… guilty!) and try to visit on a weekday if you want to skip the lines.

6. Matchstick Restaurant

Located in one of the best places to stay in Stillwater, the Hotel Crosby, is another great place to eat, the Matchstick Restaurant.

Start off with a glass of wine, or a craft cocktail from their large selection that will leave you wanting to come back for more.

Then move on to the food, which again, has “yum” written all over it!

From St. Louis Ribs to Roasted Chicken and Roasted Spaghetti Squash, they have something on the menu for every diet.

The vegetarian portion of the menu really stands out and sets Matchstick apart from many of the other dining options.

And the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant make you feel welcome and comfortable as you enjoy your meal.

7. The Muddy Cow

If you’re looking for fresh-tasting food, then head on over to The Muddy Cow in Oak Park Heights, just outside of Stillwater.

You’ll find a menu packed with burgers, sandwiches, and wraps, along with a few selections of hand-tossed pizza.

They even offer unique burgers, like the Top of the Morning Burger, which is piled high with bacon, an over-easy egg, and tater tots.

When we visited, Tyler and I shared the Cheeseburger Egg Rolls, and they were delicious.

And if you’re a sports fan, you’ll enjoy grabbing a bite to eat here, since there are several TVs around the restaurant that have the big game on.

8. Mad Capper Saloon & Eatery

If you’re like me and love to support local businesses, then eating at the Mad Capper Saloon and Eatery will allow you to do so.

The Mad Capper is a beloved restaurant located on Main Street in Stillwater. Its prime location makes it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

However, what sets it apart is its awesome service and attentive staff who make every customer feel welcome and appreciated.

Whether you’re in the mood for a juicy burger, a flavorful pasta entree, or something on the lighter side, they have plenty of options.

Their Charcuterie Board is a popular starter, and many guests love their expansive cocktail menu. They also have several mocktails available!

And of course, how could you visit a malt shop without ordering an ice cream treat?! Leo’s has great malts that come in all sorts of flavors.

From fruits like blueberry and raspberry to sweets like hot fudge, peanut butter, and Nutella, there’s a delicious malt for everyone!

Choose from pre-made sundaes, like the Dirt & Worms Cone or the Fun Cone, made with sprinkles, fruity pebbles, and edible glitter!

I have a sweet tooth that is hard to kick, and think that it’s a must to save room for their Nacho Fried Ice Cream. It’s so delicious!

15. Quickfire Pizza

You can seriously NEVER go wrong with a wood-fired pizza, and at Quickfire Pizza, they provide that by serving their delicious and creative pies.

What sets this pizzeria apart from the rest is its unique pizza toppings and flavors.

There aren’t many places that you can order up a Macaroni and Cheese pizza, or try something special like their Thai Chicken pizza!

Quickfire also serves up classic Neapolitan-style pizzas for those looking for a more traditional pie to enjoy.

You can sit outside and enjoy the nice summer sun on their outdoor patio, which is a personal favorite part of many of the Stillwater, MN restaurants.

16. Charlie’s Irish Pub

Also located inside of the Water Street Inn, just like Papa’s Rooftop, is Charlie’s Irish Pub.

You can still enjoy beautiful outdoor views here on their large outdoor patio that overlooks the St. Croix River and the historic Lift Bridge.

Enjoy classic Irish-inspired foods at the pub, from burgers to soups and salads, and of course, a large bar to grab a drink from.

You’ll also find live music at Charlie’s on most Friday and Saturday nights, so you can sit back and enjoy your food with some great entertainment.

17. Feller at Lora Hotel

And as for the food, try one of their delicious sandwiches for lunch, and for dinner, guests have loved the stuffed pheasant breast.

Feller is closer to a fine dining restaurant, so you should expect to pay higher prices.

18. Oasis Cafe

If you’re like me, then you’ll love a good breakfast spot. And at Oasis Cafe, you can get some of the very best breakfast in Stillwater!

Since the 1950s, Oasis Cafe has been serving breakfast all day, from their biscuits and gravy to their mouthwatering pancakes and french toast. The banana bread french toast is SO good!

If you aren’t a breakfast fan, you can also enjoy something from their lunch or dinner menus, which have a large selection of sandwiches, burgers, and salads.

I personally love myself a good hot roast beef sandwich, so that’s my go-to!

And being located right along the Main Street of Stillwater gives you easy access to the water after you’ve indulged in your meal!

19. Norman Quack’s

This quirky restaurant shouldn’t be underestimated just because of its silly name; Norman Quack’s offers guests a great experience.

You can expect to find nearly everything you can imagine on their expansive menu, from burgers to chicken to seafood and even a few vegetarian options.

Because Norman Quack’s is a chophouse, you can also find a large variety of pork chops, steaks, and ribs on their menu. Each is served with plenty of sides.

A favorite of guests to the Freight House is the live DJ that often plays music to dance to and just enjoy a night out.

The Freight House also has a historic background, as it’s located in the original Freight Depot, and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

After the owner of Pad Thai in St. Paul saw great success with her delicious dishes, she also opened Thai Basil in Stillwater.

One of the favorites of guests who dine here is that the food is actually “Thai hot,” as they don’t skimp out on the delicious flavors and spices here!
