I’ve gone with my family to pick out and cut down a live tree every year since I was 7. I’ve always loved getting to pick out our tree and then bringing it home to decorate.

1. Espe’s Christmas Tree Farm

Located in the far northern corner of Minnesota, Espe’s Christmas Tree Farm is a small family-owned and operated establishment.

You can cut your own spruce and Norway pines and then enjoy hot cocoa and cookies before heading home to decorate.

This is the tree farm where Tyler and I got our tree last year and the one that we’ll go to again this year! The owners were really kind when we visited last year!

2. High Plains Tree Farm

High Plains Tree Farm is a locally owned tree farm by the Fordham family, just north of Grand Rapids in northern Minnesota.

My family has been visiting this farm since I was just a little kid, and we’ve always loved it. They’re dog friendly so we can bring our dog, Bella, and there are so many choices for trees.

My favorite part is sitting around the campfire that they have burning after picking out the tree. I also love that they have a photo spot to take family pictures!

3. Wegner’s Tree Farm

This tree farm is also located near Grand Rapids, just about 15 miles outside of town off of Highway 2.

You can choose between a large selection of balsam fir, white spruce, Fraser fir, and white pine to cut down and bring home.

4. Chub Lake Tree Farm

Chub Lake Tree Farm is located in Carlton, about 25 minutes east of Duluth. This makes it the perfect opportunity to visit Bentleyville after picking out your perfect tree!

This is actually what my family did one year. We took a quick little trip over to Bentleyville, since we live an hour away, and grabbed our Christmas tree on our way! It worked great.

5. Cupkie Christmas Village

If you’re looking for a tree farm that’s more than just cutting down a tree, Cupkie Christmas Village is for you. They have a large farm, as well as tons of other activities!

Kids will love visiting Santa, taking a pony ride, flying down the sledding hill, or taking a trolley ride. You could spend the whole day here!

6. Plants Beautiful Christmas Tree Farm

Plants Beautiful Christmas Tree Farm is located in Parker’s Prairie, situated in the middle of Park Rapids, Alexandria, and Fergus Falls.

My mom grew up in Park Rapids so when I was really little we would go to this farm. I have such fond memories of picking out a tree with my grandma here.

I also love horse-drawn carriage rides, and think that they’re the most magical Christmas activity, and you can take a ride on one here!

7. Happy Land Tree Farm

At Happy Land Tree Farm, you can either choose to visit their cut-your-own farm in Sandstone or their pre-cut lot in St. Paul.

This makes it easy for people who don’t have an interest or can’t cut their own down to still have access to a fresh tree!

And because they grow award-winning trees that win prizes at the Minnesota State Fair, you’re bound to find the perfect option.

8. Cornerstone Pines

As more than just a tree farm, Cornerstone Pines is the perfect place to bring the family for a day filled with holiday cheer.

They have a huge selection of Christmas trees that are either cut-your-own or pre-cut, depending on what you prefer.

My favorite trees are the Fraser firs because they’re just so elegant and pretty, and you can get those at Cornerstone Pines!

9. Hinkemeyer Christmas Tree Farm

As soon as you arrive at Hinkemeyer Christmas Tree Farm, you’ll feel the magic of Christmas around you. Start your visit with s’mores around the campfire!

Then head out into the field to pick out your favorite tree. When I visit, I spend lots of time wandering the rows to find the perfect one.

Then end the visit with a horse-drawn sleigh ride around the farm before heading home to decorate!

10. Riverpine Tree Farm

Choose from pine, Fraser fir, balsam fir, spruce, and white pine trees and either cut your own down or pick from the pre-cut lot at Riverpine Tree Farm.

Nothing says ‘Happy Holidays’ more than free cookies, hot cider, and candy canes, which are available for you. This is always my favorite part of the day!

On some weekends, you can take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the farm and enjoy a visit with the man himself, Santa Clause.

11. Jack’s Tree Farm

If you need a Christmas tree farm near Minneapolis, then Jack’s is going to be the perfect spot for you. I visited here a few years ago when we lived in Chisago City and it was great!

They offer cut-your-own Fraser fir, Meyer spruce, white pines, and more, as well as pre-cut varieties if you’d rather do that.

12. Krueger’s Christmas Tree Farm

This is one of the most popular tree farms near Minneapolis! It’s so popular that you’ll need a reservation to visit. But that just shows how great it is.

You can head in and pick your own tree, whether you want to cut it yourself or have it pre-cut. There’s a large variety of them to choose from!

My personal favorite part is their tradition of handing out Tootsie Rolls and hot cider. Don’t mind me if I just sit and enjoy that the whole time!

13. Pinestead Tree Farm

Start up a new family tradition of choosing your own freshly-cut Christmas tree at Pinestead Tree Farm. They have a huge field of trees to choose from!

You can also enjoy other fun activities such as wandering through the gift shop, sitting around the campfire, and enjoying snacks from the food truck.

14. Hansen Tree Farm

If you want to escape the city for the day to really get into the holiday spirit, then this is the place to do it, located in Ramsey.

They’re one of the closest Christmas tree farms to Minneapolis and St. Paul!

I also love that your purchase of a tree includes live music, a campfire, hayrides, hot cocoa and cider, and a Christmas sausage on select weekends.

15. Stacy Tree Farm

Once you arrive at Stacy Tree Farm, grab a saw and head out into the field to cut down a high-quality Fraser fir, Balsam fir, or white pine.

They’ll help you with everything you need from tree shaking to loading it up into your vehicle.

Snap a few beautiful family photos while you’re at the farm, and head on home to decorate it together.

16. Turck’s Trees

Turck’s Trees is a bit further out of the Twin Cities Metro, but is still worth the visit! Located in Litchfield, you’ll drive about an hour and 15 minutes to arrive.

This family-owned tree farm prides itself on having 4th, 5th, and 6th generation workers operating the farm and growing the Christmas Trees.

Balsam fir, Fraser fir, Korean fir, Canaan fir, white pine, Black Hills spruce, and Colorado blue spruce are all available for purchase.

17. Red Caboose Christmas Trees

The Red Caboose Christmas Trees in Winona is owned by a couple from the area.

Head out and choose your own perfect Christmas tree and bring it home to decorate, or, if you prefer, choose a beautiful pre-cut tree.
